The first episode of "True Detective" season 2 commenced on June 21, Sunday night on HBO and it featured three Hollywood A-listers, namely, Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch.

Farrell's role Ray Velocoro was faced with a major dilemma and that is to find the person who attacked his wife and killed her. McAdams, on the other hand, plays the role of Antigone, a woman who has extreme daddy issues.

Meanwhile, Kitsch's role Paul was tasked to pull over people from the streets if they violate something. At one point, he pulled over a woman who then accused him of soliciting sex.

HBO's "True Detective" season 2 episode 1 received a slew of reviews from various publications. According to USA Today, the new season still featured the same darkness that made season 1 famous.

However, there is a chance that the new characters will be compared to Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. Still, the entire season of the HBO series seems promising considering the new detectives' characterizations.

The A.V. Club also noted the same observations and said that "True Detective" season 2 may easily be compared to the first season. Additionally, the HBO series may also be compared to other shows that previously aired on the network.

It was also noted how "True Detective" season 2 episode 1 seemed to have struggled in terms of attracting viewers. Not only did the premiere episode focus on the struggles of the new characters, the portrayals also clouded or polluted the minds of audiences. Still, the series deserves a second chance next Sunday when more information and secrets will be revealed.
