Starting next week, Disney safety officers will be checking bags of visitors for selfie sticks, which will have to be returned to their hotels or cars or surrendered to a storage facility. Disney will update its official park rules to include selfie sticks to the list of prohibited products, including wagons, glass containers, folding chairs and skateboards.

A Disney spokesperson said that they strive to offer the best experience for the complete family and sadly selfie sticks have become a safety concern for their cast as well as guests.

The use of selfie sticks in particular rides, such as Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom is already banned. There have also been many guests violating the no-selfie-stick rule, but were verbally warned by cast members.

This week at Disney California Adventure park, a roller coaster was stopped after an unnamed man pulled out his selfie-stick, according to The Verge. The ride was closed for 60 minutes.

Tourist attractions throughout the world have banned the famous sticks, including music festivals such as Lollapalooza and Coachella, the Colosseum in Rome, the Palace of Versailles outside of Paris and museums in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, according to The Orange County Register.
