‘Mega Man’ Co-Creator Launches Kickstarter Campaign To Fund New Project Called ‘Red Ash’

A new Kickstarter campaign was launched in order to fund a new videogame coming from Japan-based developer Comcept and "Mega Man" co-designer Keiji Inafune. The project name "Red Ash" is considered as the spiritual successor of Capcom's "Mega Man Legends" series.

According to Digital Trends, Comcept launched a separate Kickstarter campaign to fund the anime adaptation of "Red Ash" and will be produced alongside anime veteran Studio 4C All-Stars.

In a statement, Inafune said that "Red Ash" will be an anime action-RPG game with an open-world environment. The 50-year old developer added that he has attempted to resurrect the "Mega Man" franchise in the past but was not successful.

The "Red Ash" Kickstarter campaign aims to reach $800,000. Based on its official Kickstarter page, the campaign has managed to acquire $278,000 in pledges coming from 3,522 backers. The campaign still has 27 days to reach its goal.

The game's Kickstarter description reads, "RED ASH is an opportunity to not only fulfill Keiji Inafune's desire to create a game that pays homage to Japanese animation, but also his vision of immersing players in a freely explorable anime world."

The "Red Ash" gameplay will be based on Comcept's "Mighty No. 9" project. It is a side-scrolling platformer which closely resembles the gameplay mechanics of Capcom's "Mega Man" videogames. The "Mighty No. 9" Kickstarter campaign managed to acquire almost $4 million in pledges and will be released in Sept. 15.

If the "Red Ash" campaign reaches its Kickstarter goal, the game will immediately start its development stage and Comcept said that the game will be released in July 2017.
