Five months before the launch is the likely date that gamers would know the price of Project Morpheus, SCE Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida hinted over the weekend. He said it is too early to discuss price points, citing that the Japanese tech giant announced PlayStation 4's price at E3 on the year of its launch or about five months before the roll out.

Yoshida told GamesIndustry that Sony still have some pencil pushing to do to come up with an estimated price tag. "It's not like we are waiting for Oculus to announce their price," he clarifies.

Although the makers of Oculus Rift have made no official announcement, gaming websites have placed a tentative $1,500 price tag on the virtual reality game. The package covers the computer, graphics card and headset.

While in the case of other less expensive games, such as "Fallout 4" by Bethesda, the announcement before the E3 2015 generated a lot of excitement and hype about the product, in the case of Oculus, that price point could instead intimidate, points out Naplesherald.

Yoshida adds that the lack of devices at E3 2015 is part of Sony's strategy to make E3 known for games, while new hardware will be the focus of the Game Developers Conference.

It's not that Project Morpheus would be a total surprise for tech consumers because Sony had already confirmed that it would run at 120 frames per second and is designed to be used exclusively only in PlayStation 4. On the rumor side, it is speculated to support multiplayer.

According to Wareable, the 2015 Project Morpheus would retain its predecessor's Full HD 1920 x 1080 display, but the screen would be larger at 5.7 inches which would provide a 100-degree field of vision. Its RGB subpixels help smooth out the image, and it would run on 120Hz.


Yoshida said that these specs aim to deliver a sense of presence as if the player has stepped inside the world of game. "The new Project Morpheus prototype brings us closer to that goal, as it improves the visual experience and tracking accuracy, both of which are critical to achieving sense of presence," blogs Yoshida.
