With Marvel's "Black Panther" coming to theaters three years from now, "Selma" director Ava DuVernay has revealed the reason why she did not pursue her directorship over the upcoming superhero film.

In her interview with The Hollywood Reporter, DuVernay said that there was an extent of gladness and eagerness, as she supposed that she can apply her creative touch on the Wakandan superhero in a thrilling and dynamic approach, which she described as "revolutionary." However, two concerns held her back from helming the film.

The first reasons is, while it is a fact that Marvel films are known in various parts of the globe, DuVernay said that taking the director's seat for the project would have her tied up with Marvel in the next three years of her line of business, not to mention that there are other films she wants to helm.

The creative differences between DuVernay and the studio stand as the second reason why the director dropped the forthcoming "Black Panther." For the "Selma" director, her films are like her children that will be remembered long. Nonetheless, such dissimilarities between her and Marvel's ideas made her believe that "Black Panther" is not going to be a "DuVernay" film.

DuVernay is not the only one reported to have differences in vision with the studio when it comes to helming the film, as per Cinema Blend. Edgar Wright was reported to drop "Ant-Man," following his initial choice to write and direct the movie. As a result, director Peyton Reed took over the directorship on Marvel's tiniest superhero film.

Marvel's Black Panther is slated to premiere on July 6, 2018.
