The action-adventure film "Guardians of the Galaxy" recently had its anniversary and director James Gunn expressed his utmost gratitude to his fans in his letter.

Director Gunn previously shared a message on his official Facebook page. He started off with "Guardians of the Galaxy" being released a year ago and having a soaring performance on its opening weekend, which surpassed his and his team's own expectations.

The director also mentioned several things were very meaningful for him.

These include the audience's appreciation of the film and the characters, the families and groups of friends supporting the line "We are Groot", the audience's laughter at the "dumb stuff" he thought they would slip, and the film itself overrunning other comic-based film in the industry because people loved it. Gunn added that he felt oneness with the audience after a long time of storytelling and filmmaking.

For the director, he helmed "Guardians of the Galaxy" with his heart and he was grateful that fans embraced the film with their hearts. He added that his past failures were all worth it and he could not explain how the audience's love for the film meant for him.

While the Chris Pratt starrer "Guardians of the Galaxy" has made an appeal to its fans, it was the film itself that has established itself in both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the film industry, as per Cinema Blend. The fusion of Gunn's idea and the "Guardians" team has led to the film's success.

According to Comic Book, the film was adulated by fans, as evidenced by its $333.2 million and $441 million domestic and international gross, respectively.

Meanwhile, director Gunn has previously revealed that fans will see again the five members of the titular group, as well as Nebula, Yondu, and Kraglin, in his upcoming "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2." More information may be revealed soon, since production will possibly start next summer.

"Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2" stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper (voice), Vin Diesel (voice), Sean Gunn, Karen Gillan, and Michael Rooker, among others.

Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on May 5, 2017.
