Miss Peggy and Kermit The Frog are the latest couple to breakup after the series of recent divorce news started by Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner.
Introduced by mutual friend Jim Henson, Miss Peggy and Kermit The Frog are breaking up after being together for about 40 years and announced it on Aug. 4, Tuesday, at ABC's summer press tour in Beverly Hill.
Miss Peggy took to Facebook to release a joint statement about their split. She wrote, "After careful thought, thoughtful consideration and considerable squabbling, we have made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship.
"We will continue to work together on television and in all media now known or hereafter devised, in perpetuity, throughout the universe," Miss Peggy and Kermit The Frog's joint statement reads.
On the other hand, Miss Peggy and Kermit The Frog said that now, their personal lives are "distinct and separate" and they will be seeing "other people, pigs, frogs, et al."
"This is our only comment on this private matter ... unless we get the right offer," Miss Peggy and Kermit The Frog ended their joint statement. "Thank you for your understanding."
The announcement came almost two months before "The Muppets" debuts on ABC on Sept. 22. Unlike Affleck and Garner's divorce, no nanny was reported to be involved in Miss Peggy and Kermit The Frog's decision to break up.
After Affleck and Garner announced that their divorce, "The Voice" season 9 coaches Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani also shocked their fans with their divorce announcements. Stefani divorced Gavin Rossdate weeks after Shelton divorced Miranda Lambert.
Shelton and Lambert's fellow country music superstar Reba McEntire also surprised her fans when she and Narvel Blackstock released a joint statement confirming that after 26 years of marriage, they have been separated for the past few months.
A source told Us Weekly that Kelly Clarkson "urged them not to split and she's the reason they didn't split earlier." The "American Idol" season 1 champion is the daughter-in-law of Blackstock and McEntire.
