Local and overseas journalists are welcome to cover events commemorating the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II in Beijing next month, the event’s publicity team announced on Monday.
The key celebrations will be held at the Chinese capital on Sept. 2 and 3 to mark the 70th anniversary of the Allied victory in the Second World War, which is also known as the People's War Against Japanese Aggression in China, according to a statement from the organizers.
Foreign journalists wishing to cover the events were instructed to register at reg.kzjn70.cn from Aug. 3 to 18.
The statement said that a press center will be set up in Beijing during the events to provide information services for both domestic and foreign press.
The country has also invited dignitaries from other countries to the event, as well as foreign militaries to participate in a parade on Sept 3. in Beijing, which is expected to center around the city's Tiananmen Square.
Leaders from all the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia, have already confirmed their attendance to the Beijing events.
President Xi Jinping will deliver a speech and award medals during the celebrations. Representatives of veterans and civilians who supported the Chinese forces during the war and relatives of the deceased will also take part in the parade.
Beijing has been ramping up preparations for the 70th anniversary since its announcement in June. The city government has repaired the aging roads around Tiananmen Square in preparation for the parade, and implemented road traffic restrictions and emission control measures to ensure clean air during the events.
