Another villain has been added to the growing cast ensemble of Bryan Singer's "X-Men: Apocalypse," the Blob.
Instagram user Benjamin Malatre Bureau has shared a photo on his official account. The photo shows a n "X-Men: Apocalypse" souvenir keychain he said he had received after he spent four days at the film's set in Quebec. According to the Instagram user, a 540-pound French-Canadian actor will play the role of the mutant, and production would not utilize a fat suit or CGI to revive the character.
With the human alter ego of Frederick Dukes, the Blob initially appeared in "X-Men#3" in 1964, implying that he is one of the oldest adversaries of the titular team. The mutant was then conscripted by Magneto in his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. "Reel Steel" actor Kevin Durand played the role of the mutant in Gavin Hood's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" in 2009.
The Blob possesses super strength, the ability to sustain physical injury, and the ability to yield a gravitational field, allowing him to be immobile who on the ground. While he has these set of abilities, he can still be damaged by mental and sensory attacks, not to mention that his face is more vulnerable to attacks as it is unlike his blubbery skin.
With the titular supervillain Apocalypse, his Four Horsemen, and William Stryker, the Blob could rise as one of the impending threats to the X-Men in Singer's film, as per Cinema Blend. It has not been revealed if the mutant's appearance will be similar to Toad in Singer's "X-Men: Days of Future Past" in 2014; however, it could be more than a cameo, as per Screen Rant.
The film also stars Ian McKellen, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Lucas Till, Evan Peters, Ben Hardy, Olivia Munn, Lana Condor, Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Josh Helman, Rose Byrne, and Oscar Isaac, among others.
Singer's "X-Men: Apocalypse" is set to hit theaters in the United States on May 27, 2016.
