Ridley Scott wants "Prometheus 2" to be released before "Alien 5," which he will be producing. "Alien" fans were disappointed since it has been a while since a sequel of the sci-fi film was rumored to come out in theaters.
On a positive note, "District 9" director Neill Blomkamp will be taking charge of direction for "Alien 5," which means that he will have enough time to do a good working script, Geek reported.
Scott started the "Alien" franchise back in 1979. Despite the news on delay, another clear advantage of it is that there is a bigger chance that Sigourney Weaver's schedule is not that hectic anymore. Weaver is the main character in the first three "Alien" movies, but is currently busy with the "Avatar" sequel.
"Prometheus" original movie reportedly did not capture the hearts of its fans, but it still garnered $400 million in the box office. Making a sequel is just logical for the new franchise.
"Prometheus 2" filming is set to start by January 2016. The first film was supposed to be a fifth installment for the 'Alien" franchise, but was later on decided that it just be made into an independent movie.
"Prometheus 2" director Scott has just recently finished his fourth science-fiction work, "The Martian" which stars Matt Damon, Collider reported. The movie is a book adaptation of an astronaut left out to die by his team on the rocky surface of Mars after a mission was aborted.
