A new leak of the alleged protective case of upcoming Google Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 has revealed that the smartphones will sport a possible fingerprint scanner.

The leak came from a Twitter account of Marques Brownlee who uses the handle @MKBHD. Brownlee posted the photo with a caption that reads, "This is supposed to be the LG-built Nexus. Case-makers always have cases ready before the devices actually come out."

The leaked photograph of the alleged Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 case shows three holes. One for the camera, another for the flash and the last hole confirms the device will indeed sport a fingerprint scanner, according to BGR. The fingerprint scanner can be utilized for several purposes like unlocking the device, paying via Android Pay or logging into apps.

Currently, there are a handful of Android devices that sports a fingerprint scanner. However, the feature will not be supported by the operating system until the official release of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Google announced the official name of its upcoming operating system in August but the company did not reveal when the official release date will be, according to Android Pit.

Aside from providing the necessary software for fingerprint scanners, many tech experts also predict that Android Marshmallow will integrate support for USB Type-C ports.

At least two Nexus devices are expected to be released before the year ends. Google has already confirmed that it is working with LG and Chinese company Huawei in order to build its upcoming Nexus flagship smartphones.
