Microsoft has scheduled a gigantic event for Windows 10 mobile devices on October 6, Tuesday, during which the operating system giant will unveil the new Lumia 950 and 950 XL smartphones, Surface Pro 4 tablet, and Microsoft Band 2 smart wristband. However, it will also team up with its desktop PC and laptop partners during the next weeks, including Hewlett-Packard in Barcelona on Wednesday, Dell at a Win10 OS hardware event on Thursday, Asus on Friday, Acer on October 12, and Lenovo on October 19.

Tuesday's live event will be held in New York City. It will be Webcast at 10 a.m. ET.

Microsoft executives will be attending some of the events. They include Windows chief Terry Myerson, according to The Verge.

Fresh off its July release, Windows 10 will probably run on all of Microsoft's new devices. It will also include an array of cross-platform functions.

The new Lumia smartphones could be perceived as a powerful phone and especially for business users. That is particularly true if its apps function well with platforms including desktops, laptops, and tablets.

However, Microsoft's smartphones sales have been unimpressive to date. Gartner's August figures showed its 2.8 percent market share far behind Google's Android (84 percent) and Apple's iOS (12 percent).

Gartner analyst Tuong Nguyen said that an announcement of new Lumia phones on Tuesday will not cause a quick turnaround, according to Computerworld. The company's big picture centers on Windows 10, and the goal that consumers will use the OS not only for home computers, but also for mobile phones and tablets.

Ideal markets would include the United States and United Kingdom. That is because developing markets tend to be mobile-only or mobile-first.

The first non-Nokia Lumia branded smartphone was introduced in November 2011. It was the 535 model.
