CyanogenMod leverages Android's open source project and increases the performance and reliability of Android devices. It offers a wide range of enhancements and features that are mostly not found in current versions of Android.

The new update is not yet available on all Android devices but users of HTC One M7, Nexus 9, Nexus 7 2013, and Nexus 4 can already download it.

CyanogenMod is currently working on Marshmallow and will be revealing more details about their plans to integrate CM to the latest Android version.

Last month, the company released CyanogenMod 12.1 for Android 5.1.1 and it has worked well with CM 11.0 and 12.0 along with its security releases.

Make sure to check CyanogenMod's list of supported devices regularly to see if your phone or tablet already made it. If not, then it's best to install the pre-release builds.

The variants of CyanogenMod's firmware are divided into categories namely Stable, Release Candidate, M-series, Nightlies, and the most recent Snapshot.

The Stable version is the tried and tested one and is recommended for daily use. It also supports a lot of Android devices.

The Release Candidate (RC) is not yet the final version but it's a variant that has no bugs or major flaws. It's currently on the stabilization stage transitioning to the Stable version.

M-series firmware is practically the same as RCs but is categorized as stable for CM users. Nightlies is the volatile, work-in-progress version of the firmware.
