Making Tim Miller's forthcoming Marvel Comics film "Deadpool" R-Rated was the right action, according to its screenwriters.
Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese are on board to pen the screenplay for Miller's "Deadpool." In the producers' interview with Screen Rant, Wernick said that a "hard R" had just felt like an chance for the team to go comedy. He also mentioned that the superhero market was so oversaturated, citing that "Guardians of the Galaxy" had filled a hole with its comedic tone.
Wernick also explained that making "Deadpool" R-rated had been the best move if the budget could have kept low. For the producer, that decision was exciting.
With its R-rating, Miller's "Deadpool" will be able to compensate the loss of its young audience by gaining audience from the older population, according to Cinema Blend. The publication also said that it was possible, since the older audience would be able to see a film that as different from everything that they had seen before.
Directed by Tim Miller, "Deadpool" features Wade Wilson's origin story, as a former member of the Special Forces who became a subject in an experiment to become a superhero. Ryan Reynolds will play Deadpool, also known as the Merc with the Mouth. The film also stars Morena Baccarin, Gina Carano, Brianna Hildebrand, Ed Skrein, and T.J. Miller, among others.
Miller's "Deadpool" is set to premiere in theaters in the United States on Feb. 12, 2016 while the release date for "Deadpool 2" is yet to be revealed.
