Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi Inc. is reportedly preparing to unveil its latest Mi Pad 2 tablet after the device was recently spotted in a Geekbench benchmark test.

The benchmark test showed that Xiaomi Mi Pad 2, which is the successor of Xiaomi Mi Pad, will pack Intel's Atom X5-Z8500 processor under the hood. The Mi Pad 2 is purported to come with a quad-core 2.24GHz CPU with 2GB of RAM.

The Mi Pad 2 will run with Android 5.1 Lollipop version operating system along with the latest MIUI user interface. Like its predecessor, the tablet will probably sport the same 7.9-inch display screen with a 2,048 x 1,536 pixel resolution, GSM Arena reported.

The tablet also got certified in China in September, which strongly hinted its imminent release.

As for the tablet's availability, there is still no word on when exactly the Mi Pad 2 will make its way into the market, and how much it will cost. However, the Mi Pad 2 could be unveiled at the same time as Xiaomi Mi 5 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Pro, Phone Arena reported. Rumors claim that the devices will be announced on Dec. 3. However, this should be taken with a grain of salt.

In comparison with its predecessor, the original Mi Pad came with Nvidia's Tegra K1 processor along with a quad-core 2.2 GHz Cortex-A15, and a ULP GeForce Kepler graphics processing unit. This chipset is accompanied by 2GB of RAM, up to 16GB/64GB internal memory and powered by a 6,700 mAh battery. In addition, the Mi Pad has an 8 megapixel camera on the back and a 5 megapixel camera on the front.
