On Thursday, a Chinese envoy to the United Nations expressed strong condemnation of the Islamic State (ISIS) for killing a Chinese national, calling for global cooperation in fighting against terrorism, as reported by the Global Times.

The U.N. Security Council strongly condemned the murder of the Chinese and Norwegian citizen. According to Liu Jieyi, China's permanent representative to the United Nations, this condemnation reflects the consensus of the members of the council, as well as the other members of the U.N., to combat all forms of terrorism.

Earlier in the day, the Security Council condemned "the heinous and cowardly act" of ISIS in killing Chinese citizen Fan Jinghui and Norweigian citizen Old Johan Grimsgaard-Ofstad.

The 15-nation council said in a press statement that these crimes demonstrate the brutality of ISIS.

ISIS announced its killing of the Chinese and Norwegian hostages using the latest issue of Dabiq, an English-language magazine. China confirmed Fan's death on Thursday.

Liu said that terrorism is the common enemy faced by all humanity. He added that all acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of time, place, motivation or who is committing the act.

China strongly opposes all forms of terrorism, said Liu. He added that China will continue to promote international cooperation to crack down on any terrorist crime that goes against human civilization.

The capture of the two hostages by ISIS was announced though Dabiq's issue in September.

According to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hong Lei, the Chinese government used all its resources to rescue the hostage after learning about the kidnapping. However, ISIS ignored basic human morality and killed Fan, he said.
