The "Earth Defense Fore" franchise is a series of third-person, tactical role-playing video game. Since the game's first inception in 2003, its development has been handled by three different studios, which are Sandlot, thinkArts and Vicious Cycle Software.

Despite its mixed critical reviews and minimal mainstream appeal, the series has created a devoted cult following. The games' main appeal is its detailed pick-up-and-play gameplay style. In all the games, players assume the role of an "Earth Defense Force" soldier who must protect the planet during an alien invasion.
