The fate of "True Detective" season 3 is still yet to be determined despite creator Nic Pizzolatto signing another three-year contract with HBO. Although a renewal has yet to be confirmed, the network hinted that they are considering it.

According to Variety, HBO has long wanted to renew the show for a third season. Turns out, they are only waiting for Pizzolatto. Given the critical response to the third season, the network reportedly offered the creator multiple options on how to improve the show. It was perceived that some changes were necessary.

HBO was said to provide him with three choices: run the show on his own, work with a staff of writers or have a new showrunner come in. No matter what he ends up choosing, he will be credited as its executive producer.

The outlet further reported that HBO has been pressuring Pizzolatto to give his decision soon so that they may start production for the third season.

Fans and critics definitely had high hopes for the second season given that the original installment was such a huge hit. It even earned multiple Emmy nominations.

Variety's Brian Lowry shared his disappointment in his season 2 review.

"Although the gap between seasons one and two isn't severe enough to merit the sort of angst in which these characters are mired, 'True' fans might still come away feeling let down, if not downright blue.

And Lowry is not mistaken. When rumors of "True Detective" season 3's renewal broke online, several took to Twitter to share their sentiments.

"My hate watching of the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade will only be rivaled by my hate watching of True Detective Season," Mike Metz wrote
