John Boyega is set to be part of Rian Johnson's upcoming "Star Wars: Episode VIII," as previously confirmed by Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.

In a special press conference  for J.J. Abrams' upcoming "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens," Kennedy said that Abrams and Johnson already talked at length, since the latter was about to begin shooting "Star Wars: Episode VIII," Cinema Blend reported.

Lucasfilm's head also added that the cast members beside her, while patting Boyega on the back, were getting ready to head over in January 2016. Boyega plays the role of former Stormtrooper Finn in the film. Along with him and Kennedy were Oscar Isaac, Gwendoline Christie, and Harrison Ford,

Kennedy also said that while they had not mapped out every single detail yet, everybody was talking to one another and working together. She said that that collaboration was what was going to guarantee that everyone had a say in how they moved forward with the film.

According to Hit Fix, Fii's story arc will be expanded in the new "Star Wars" film trilogy. Just like how Luke and Leia were fully explored in the original "Star Wars" film predecessors, Finn and Rey are set to follow the same path in the upcoming set of "Star Wars" films.

"Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" is set 30 years after the events in the "Return of Jedi." it showcases an ensemble of both old and new heroes and villains played by Boyega, Isaac, Christie, Ford, Daisy Ridley, Simon Pegg, Max von Sydow, Domhnall Gleeson, Adam Driver, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher, among others.

Abrams' "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on Dec. 18. Watch the international trailer here:
