"Person of Interest" may have been renewed for a fifth season but multiple reports suggest that CBS may eventually decide to pull the plug on the series even after the renewal.
According to International Business Times, fans of the series were definitely surprised when the show was not part of the network's midseason schedule. Although the outlet speculated that the 13-episodes will definitely air sometime next year, CBS had a hard time choosing which series to prioritize and which ones to bump off.
"The network's schedule is actually pretty strong and that means there's no room for more shows, even for one like 'Person of Interest,' which has a pretty vocal fan base, if not stellar ratings."
When the network only placed an order for 13 episodes this season 5, as opposed to the usual 22, some took this as a sign that the show is about to get cancelled. At the recent San Diego Comic Con, screenwriter Jonathan Nolan admitted that they were all treating the fifth season as their last.
Speaking to Comic Book Resources, Michael Emerson, who plays Harold Finch in the series, pointed out that there is always the possibility that the show will be picked up by another network or a streaming service like Hulu or Netflix.
Emerson may be on to something here given that there are multiple shows that got axed by their network only to be picked up, such as "Longmire" and "The Mindy Project."
The actor, however, explained that fans should not get their hopes up, saying that the show has become very expensive to produce.
