It seems that the news of the cancellation of "Mike & Molly" by CBS caught the lead actress Melissa McCarthy off guard as she took to Twitter to express her shock and sorrow.

"I was shocked and heartbroken when @CBS canceled #MikeAndMolly. I would have shot this show for 50 more years. I'll miss my 2nd family," tweeted the 45-year-old actress who famously portrays the role of Molly in the romantic comedy series.

McCarthy's tweet probably ended the speculation which was brewing over the fate of the CBS' series since couple of its stars indicated on social media over its impending closure. The actress's reaction came after her co-star Rondi Reed revealed on social media that the show was ending, stating the cancellation was CBS' decision and the show's producers had failingly explored "other ventures" too.

CBS is yet to make the official announcement regarding the closure of the show. The news comes as a shock to the fans who flocked to social media to condemn the decision.

"Who the flip cancelled #MikeAndMolly ?! @CBS @mikeandmolly @melissamccarthy @BillyGardell @netflix or @hulu should pick it up!!," tweeted one of the fans.

This is not the first time that CBS has axed one of its shows abruptly. Back in May, the network shut down "CSI" after cutting down the 22-episode order to just 18. The show had average 8 million viewers at the time.

Similarly, "Mike & Molly" had an average viewership of 8.4 million viewers during its fifth season and 8.3 for the fourth season as compared to 16.14 million viewers of the network's most successful show "The Big Bang Theory," Fox News reported.

The move comes amidst the rumours that CBS is revamping its outlook and is planning to attract younger viewers since its median age is 59.9, highest among all network broadcasters, The Wrap reported.
