The much-awaited mega bout involving Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor remains up in the air. The undefeated boxer reiterated that he is happily retired and that if anything would prosper, he would be the first one to let the world know.
There was the previous word that the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor was close to happening according to tabloid The Sun. The UFC lightweight champion was on his way to Las Vegas to do an anti-bullying shoot, a requirement from the Nevada Sports Commission. This was tied up to that water bottle-throwing incident involving Nate Diaz.
Both Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor have gone back and forth the past months. Nothing has come close until the recent round of rumors though Mayweather was expected to quash the rumors since it didn’t come out from his mouth.
Curiously, Mayweather’s take came shortly after UFC president Dana White said that no deal was close to being done, ESPN reported. Prior to that, various outlets were under the impression that Mayweather was ready to face the Irishman and give the fans what they wanted.
There are various issues that need to be covered if the Mayweather vs. McGregor match is to actually take place. Money is on top of the list with both may take home millions should the fantasy fight be set.
Previously, White had dangled a $25 million to both fighters which Mayweather scoffed. Believing it was a bluff, the undefeated boxer countered by offering McGregor $15 million to face him. Since then, the storm had calmed down. Regardless both are expected to earn hundreds of millions coming from the fight purse and pay-per-view buys.
The Mayweather vs. McGregor hype is not expected to be snuffed out soon. It may not be a realistic face-off though some are not shutting down the possibility. Mayweather and McGregor are expected to continue with their proverbial jabs, begging to ask if both do have the guts to settle their differences in the ring.
