The newest trend among on-air television series is killing off a major character. "Sleepy Hollow" recently gave the boot to female lead Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) and "Game of Thrones" fans nearly lost Jon Snow (Kit Harington). Now, it is said that "Teen Wolf" main bestie Stiles Stilinski will join the club.

Although nothing has been confirmed, reports suggest that Dylan O'Brien is checking out of the show due to his immensely busy schedule. According to Deadline, the 24-year-old actor is in talks with CBS Films to play Mitch Rapp in the movie adaptation of Vince Flynn's bestselling series "American Assassin." Mitch is the lead character in "American Assassin," who is a counter-terrorism operative employed by the CIA.

CBS Films is expected to finalize the casting soon. Should O'Brien bag the role, he will star alongside Michael Keaton, who will play Stan Hurley, a Cold War veteran who trains Mitch on "how to shoot, stab, blow things up, and even kill with his bare hands."

Aside from his pending "American Assassin" application, "The Maze Runner: The Death Cure" is also in production. Filming, however, was shut down indefinitely due to O'Brien suffering an injury from an accident on set.

O'Brien was injured while filming on March 18, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, sources revealed that O'Brien was in a harness while atop a moving vehicle when he was accidentally pulled off the vehicle and hit another one. He reportedly obtained a concussion, facial fracture and lacerations.

"His injuries are very serious, and he needs more time to recover," the actor's publicist said. The shoot for "The Death Cure" will resume once O'Brien fully recovers.

Given his tight schedule and current condition, it appears that the actor is having difficulty squeezing in time to film for "Teen Wolf" Season 6. However, it is unlikely for O'Brien to get booted out of the show.

Since Stiles is one of the central and essential characters in "Teen Wolf," it would mean bad business for the show to kill off a fan favorite. What could happen is that Stiles may have to sit out of this season (the same way Bran was out of the scene in "Game of Thrones" Season 5) or at least keep his appearances to a minimum.

"Teen Wolf" Season 6 will premiere in MTV later this year.
