"Nashville" season 4 was recently cancelled by ABC, and network president for entertainment Channing Dungey is finally opening up why they decided to do so.

After the cancellation, fans started speculating that the show was cancelled because its ratings no longer did well. Even though this was absolutely true, Dungey broke down what the networks and studios expect from each of the shows that it renews.

"The studios in each case were looking for the best financial and creative ways to help their shows get another season, making plans should they get orders. On the network side we were thinking what the best fit on the schedule is and looking at the new development. A lot of the decisions came down to the wire. At the end of the day - even though both 'Castle' and 'Nashville' have been wonderful shows and great performers - we felt that the future of us didn't necessarily lie in these shows," he told Deadline.

Meanwhile, viewers of "Nashville" still have the chance to watch their favorite characters for another episode before the franchise officially comes to a close.

In the finale episode entitled "Maybe You'll Appreciate Me Someday," Rayna (Connie Britton) will take some serous action after she discovers that her eldest daughter Maddie (Lennon Stella) has come in contact with a deceitful figure from her past. Since Rayna is very protective of her daughter, she would do everything she can to protect her.

Other than this, Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) will also make a tough decision that could make or break her personal life, as well as her professional career.

Meanwhile, photos from the set of "Nashville" season 4, episode 21 were recently released online.

One of the photos showed Rayna talking to Deacon (Charles Esten). The couple recently went to therapy together.

Another photo showed Rayna performing with her youngest daughter on stage.

Juliette will also be interviewed by a female TV host, and by the looks of it their conversation would be very serious.

Scarlett and Gunnar will also be performing on stage together despite their band's recent split.

"Nashville" season 4, episode 21 will air on ABC on May 25 at 9 p.m. ET.
