The principal photography of the film began on Oct. 20, 2014, in New Orleans, Louisiana. The updates during the shooting were provided by Daily Mail saying that Cornish looked ravishing in a pair of black trousers and white blouse teamed up with a black blazer. Her role as a secret service agent required her to be dressed sensibly and with a pair of high heeled boots, completed her look.

Electric Entertainment is producing the movie "Geostorm" with Skydance Productions. Dean Devlin, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Rachel Olschan and Marc Roskin will produce the movie. This movie is all set to open in cinemas in the Martin Luther King Jr. weekend on Jan. 13, 2017. Even though the producers have changed the release date from Oct. 21, 2016 to Jan. 13, 2017 to earn better revenues in the opening weekend, it will face fierce competition from some other big-budget movies.

Andy García too has has joined the cast and will play the role of President Palma. Gerard Butler will play the role of a satellite designer who will head into space to take control of a climate control satellite which had stopped functioning properly

Meanwhile, Butler's estranged brother (Jim Sturgess) who is also the boyfriend to Cornish's character in the movie will uncover a plot to assassinate the president (Andy Garcia). As per the speculations from some publications, this American science fiction disaster action thriller has a weak script and the movie might not do well in the cinemas. According to Collider, the script is not trust-worthy and even though there is a great star cast, the fate of the movie will be decided only when it is released in the theatres.

The script was originally written by Devlin and later Kieran and Michele Mulroney worked on it. As per the trailer uploaded on YouTube, this seems to be an action packed movie.
