Former WWE superstar Jeff Hardy is one of the greatest high-flying wrestlers in the history of the company. According to the latest rumors, Hardy is very open to returning to the WWE but there is one major roadblock for it to become a reality.
The 38-year-old TNA Wrestling star will be a free agent in February 2017 and he has been telling friends that he would want to end his career in the WWE. He left the WWE in August 2009 to rest several injuries but he signed with TNA in 2010.
On the other hand, the WWE has been looking to add veteran and former talents for the brand extension. Hardy falls into that category and he could bring much experience and popularity that will help the company in the ratings.
There are several reports indicating that the WWE is afraid to hire Hardy due to his past substance abuse. The company has been very careful about these issues and it could hinder his WWE return. It should be noted that he was suspended twice during his second tenure for violating the Wellness Policy.
However, the substance abuse history is not the major roadblock in Hardy's return to the WWE. According to Cageside Seats, Hardy wants to work a part-time schedule while the company wants him to be a full-timer.
The two side can always agree on limited dates just like with Chris Jericho, who is seven years older than him. The WWE wants to use Hardy's popularity to increase the attendance at house shows and live events. He even has a final match for his WWE career in mind.
In an interview with LA Weekly, Hardy revealed that he wants to face The Undertaker at WrestleMania to end his career. He added that he wants it to be inside Hell in a Cell, a match that he has not competed in.
"Man, I want to Swanton off the top of the cell, onto the commentary table. Then, I want to climb the cell, cut the (expletive) cage, when Taker's back in the ring, and Swanton though the cage, miss, and then Tombstone 1-2-3," Hardy said.
It is not impossible to see The Charismatic Enigma back in the WWE and fans would love to see him finish his career there. However, the issues such as his history of substance abuse, injuries and scheduling will be roadblocks.
