"Descendants of the Sun" star Song Joong-Ki has re-branded himself by cutting his hair off. The 30-year-old Hallyu star revealed that he cut his hair short in preparation for his freedom fighter role in the upcoming film, "Battleship Island."

The "Sungkyunkwan Scandal" actor was one of the many Hallyu stars who graced the red carpet at the 2016 Seoul Drama Awards. The annual event was held on Sept. 8, Thursday, at the KBS broadcasting station in Yeouido, Seoul, South Korea.

"I cut my hair because I'm currently filming a movie, but it feels awkward," Song explained in a brief interview with KBS 2TV's "Entertainment Weekly." "I hope you can look at it favorably."

Before joining the military in 2013, Song was recognized for his roles with medium-length layered hair in 2012's "The Innocent Man" and "A Werewolf Boy." Nonetheless, the Hallyu star's new short haircut apparently comes as no surprise to many.

Before he commenced the taping for "Battleship Island," Song already vowed to shave his hair bald and lose some weight to make his body shape fit the character, according to Hong Kong newspaper Sing Tao Daily, as cited by The Kpop Herald. He is slated to transform into a Korean freedom fighter, Park Moo-Young, who is on a covert mission to rescue an important colleague in Gunkanjima Island.

The upcoming historical film, which also stars So Ji-Sub and Hwang Jung-Min, is currently filming under a scorching heat in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, South Korea. On Aug. 21, Joong-Ki's "Descendants of the Sun" co-star Song Hye-Kyo sent a coffee truck to the cast and crew of "Battleship Island."

The surprising treat was revealed by Coffee Pong through their official Instagram account. The truck was decked out with a banner that reads, "Cheers to Song Joong-Ki and the rest of the 'Battleship Island' crew."

The last to walk the red carpet at the Seoul Drama Awards, Joong-Ki stated that the "Full House" actress is his best onscreen partner. He then revealed Hye-Kyo has not only sent a coffee truck, but also sent a truck loaded with snacks too, Soompi reported.
