"Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 will feature the return of a previously fired surgeon who had a romantic relationship with Arizona. Former cast member Tessa Ferrer has signed on to reprise her role as Leah Murphy in the ABC series.

A familiar face will soon appear on "Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 with the impending return of Ferrer. The actress portrayed the surgeon Leah in earlier seasons of the long-running ABC series. She is set to reprise the said character in a recurring role, according to TV Line.

Details of Leah's role in the ABC series were not disclosed but storyline speculations hinted of the character's potential romantic involvement with Arizona (Jessica Capshaw). Leah served as Arizona's love interest in "Grey's Anatomy" Season 10 prior to the said character's romance with Callie.

Leah was also removed from the show at the end of Season 10. The character was fired from Grey Sloan Hospital over claims of being an incompetent surgeon.

"Grey's Anatomy" Season 9 served as Ferrer's introduction to the series as one of the hospital's interns. The actress was promoted to series regular in Season 10 but eventually left the ABC show at the end of the same season. Ferrer was one of the cast members whose contracts were not renewed at that time.

In other news, the series' showrunner Shonda Rhimes previously teased of Arizona's new romance in an earlier interview with Entertainment Weekly. Viewers will soon witness Arizona's renewed love life and new story arc in upcoming episodes.

Shimes did not reveal if Arizona's new love interest would be a new character or an old one. However, the story development will allow Arizona to move on from her relationship with Callie.

The said character's new romance will also happen "organically" with two people naturally moving closer together, according to the showrunner. Rhimes is also planning to inject a little bit of fun in Arizona's new love life to show the character's growth after previous relationship struggles.

"Grey's Anatomy" airs every Thursday on ABC. Watch the trailer for the show's upcoming episode below:
