When "The Flash" Season 3 returns from its winter break, avid viewers can expect to see a different plot with the Flashpoint story arc taking a back seat in favor of the Savitar threat. Given the said villain's ominous prophecy coupled with Barry's quick glimpse of the future that showed Iris' death, beloved characters will do everything they can to stop the said event from happening.

With Barry, also known as The Flash, adamant to trace present events as it links to the future, the scarlet speedster will enlist the Kid Flash's help to change Iris' fate. Taking the role of a mentor, Barry will try to impart what he learned over the years to the newbie superhero.

However, the Kid Flash's cocky attitude may land him in big trouble. In an interview with TVLine, showrunner Aaron Helbing shared that the said character's background as a drag racer and the thrill that he feels when displaying his speedster abilities will get him into a few dangerous situations.

Helbing added, "That will play out throughout the season, that he'll have to realize that he's got to check himself. There's a reason why Barry has the attitude and the mentality that he has when he goes out there."

Meanwhile, Cisco will also play a critical part in helping to prevent Iris' death. Upcoming episodes will feature the said character exploring his powers, especially with the appearance of a new adversary.

Helbing told Entertainment Weekly that Gypsy's (guest star Jessica Camacho) arrival will force Cisco to take stock in his abilities and the things that he can do. Learning more about his powers will also boost Cisco's confidence as he further develops his skills that will be key in keeping Iris safe and alive, according to the showrunner.

"The Flash" Season 3 will release its midseason premiere on Jan. 24, Tuesday, on the CW. Watch the preview clip for the upcoming episode below:
