Android is tapping into the 4K streaming technology with the introduction of the Nvidia Shield Pro. While this is already an improvement of the earlier Nvidia Shield, the newer version packs a bigger storage space at a cheaper value when it comes to a 4K streaming top box.
The newly released 4K streaming box from Nvidia is already out for shipping, and it is reportedly the cheaper alternative for users who want to experience Android TV-powered devices in 4K, The Verge reported.
Its 500GB storage space, Nvidia Tegra X1, 3GB of RAM and 4K support allows it to be a pretty powerful device. It is also a first for Android TV 4K to be made available without the TV. It also allows users to stream via YouTube and Netflix.
The Nvidia Shield Pro offers an advantage to those who are also gamers as well. Packing in the capability of cloud streaming PC games, Nvidia's newest devices does this without the need for a high-spec computer. The entire Nvidia Shield Pro package is priced at $300, but this also comes with an additional playable title, "Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel" as a time-limited bonus.
This offer is just one of the ways by which Nvidia aims to improve Android gaming as a whole. Recently, Nvidia has just acquired the Graphics & Portability Group of Transgaming, Forbes reported. The company's latest acquisition move may be one of the keys to bringing Nvidia closer to the title of delivering the premiere Android TV set top box.
More than having an addition to the GameWorks efforts for the company, the acquisition will reportedly be Nvidia's way of creating more ports for the Nvidia Shield products. This is all thanks to Transgaming's effort to developer cider, which allows for quicker porting of games to the OS X.
While the acquisition does not cover SwiftShader, the fastest 3D rendering technology software to date, TransGaming has been announced as Nvidia GRID's partner, hinting at the use of Nvidia gaming technology in powering the GameTree TV of the latter sometime in the future.
