'X-Men' Actor Hugh Jackman To Star In A Film Adaptation Of Homer’s ‘The Odyssey’

"X-Men" actor Hugh Jackman has been reported to play a lead role in a film adaptation of Homer's "The Odyssey."

Sources told The Wrap that Jackman has not officially sign on to the film while "The Hunger Games" director Francis Lawrence is set to take the director's seat and helm the film. Meanwhile, Lionsgate will be in charge of the film's funding.

With the look of a warrior, Odysseus can be easily played by Jackman, according to Cinema Blend. The actor is known to play the role of the adamantium-clawed mutant Wolverine in various "X-Men" films, along with his role as an ex-convict in Tom Hooper's "Les Miserables."

Jackman is also set to appear in Joe Right's "Pan," Dexter Fletcher's "Eddie the Eagle," and Bryan Singer's "X-Men: Apocalypse. The actor also said in his previous interviews that he will be playing Wolverine one last time in James Mangolds' untitled "Wolverine" sequel, which premieres on Mar. 3, 2017.

Meanwhile, Lawrence is known for directing "The Hunger Games," which is a film adaptation of Suzanne Collins young adult novel of the same title. The most recent among the franchises' films is "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2," which unfolds an epic battle between the thirteen districts led by Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss Everdeen and the autocratic Capitol. The film hits theaters on Nov. 20.

"The Odyssey" is one of the two principal ancient literary Greek epic poems ascribed to Homer, with "Iliad" the other literary piece. It centers on the like of the Greek hero Odysseus, who is also known as Ulysses in Roman mythology, as he push his journey after the fall of Troy. Taking him 10 years to return to his homeland Ithaca, it is presumed that he has died, leading his wife and son to deal with disorderly suitors.

The project is currently in the early phase of its development and exact details on the cast and characters, the plot, and the release date are yet to be revealed.
