"Castle" season 8 will air its second episode on Monday night, and it will reveal why Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) disappeared.
ABC just released a teaser for the episode, and it featured a new character named Rita, who also happens to be Rick Castle's (Nathan Fillion) stepmother, according to TV Guide.
In the teaser, a group of guys tried to attack Kate while inside an empty property. Luckily, just before she was shot, Rita appeared and rescued her.
As of late, it is still unclear how Rita found out about Kate's fate at that time. In the past, Rick and Rita were never featured in the same scene together.
Additionally, by the looks of it, Rita is an experienced officer who knows how to use a gun.
"You can call me Rita. I'm Castle's stepmother," actress Ann Cusack said in the clip.
Meanwhile, the official synopsis for "XX" and it revealed that the episode will be told from the perspective of Kate.
In other news, fans of "Castle" were not very pleased with the premiere episode of the once hit ABC series.
Co-showrunner Terence Paul Winter and Alexi Hawley recently defended their decision to make the episodes of "Castle" season 8 as raw or as funny as possible.
"We can have episodes that are very gritty and raw and then the next week, we can tell something that's fun and frothy and delightful," Winter told Entertainment Weekly.
Hawley urged fans to wait and see how the upcoming episodes will unfold because there will be a lot of tears and laughters.
"Castle" season 8 airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
