British business Paul Bailey crashed his Porsche Spyder on Sunday into spectators at a charity road show in Hal Farruq, Malta. The accident injured 26 people.
Fox reports that the sports car, which had a top speed of 210mph, was travelling at high speed on an unused airport runway. It clipped the grass, causing the vehicle to spin off the track and crash through the barriers. Among those injured was a 6-year-old girl who is in critical condition, reports Daily Mail.
Bailey, a 55-year-old business tycoon who reportedly owns 30 sports car, was among the nine hospitalized. To raise funds for the charity organized by the Maltese government, Bailey sold raffle tickets with the winner getting a ride on one of his sports cars, a McLaren P1.
The rest of the rally, Paqpaqli ghall-lstrina Motorshow, organized yearly by the government to raise money for the needy, was cancelled after the accident.
Bailey became rich by selling in 2012 for 28 million pounds the communications company he founded with wife Selena. The started the company with a capital of more than 1 million pounds.
His car collection has a combined value of more than 3 million pounds. He is believed to be the first person in the world to own the "Holy Trinity" of hypercars, according to Daily Mail. These are the Porsche 918, Ferrari LaFerrari and McLaren P1.
He completed the collection in one day by buying the Porsche and LaFerrari in one day, while he already owned the McLaren P1 which costs 866,000 pounds.
