Verizon has unveiled the Motorola Droid Turbo 2 with a damage-proof screen technology called “ShatterShield.”

Droid Turbo 2 is the first phone touted to have an unsmashable screen. The design integrates multiple layers of material to help bend and absorb the shock to prevent the screen from cracking. Motorola said that its five-layer system “ShatterShield” on break-proof screen took three to optimize the recipe that could withstand the shock without losing touch sensitivity.

ShatterShield comprises of a durable aluminum core, a flexible AMOLED screen, two touch layers to provide backup if one of the layers gets damaged, and an interior and exterior lens layer, Wired reported.

Motorola Corporate Vice President Jeff Miller said that the phone has been tested in Motorola’s own Chicago headquarter, with specific labs to perform drop and tumble tests. They have dropped the device on concrete, on the side, front, and back.

Droid Turbo 2 features 5.4-inch QHD display with 2560x1440 screen resolution and 540 PPI. It is powered by Snapdragon 810 processor and runs under Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop) with Moto Apps. The device features 3GB of RAM with two internal storage options: 32- and 64GB, both expandable via microSD up to 2TB.

It has the same 21MP rear camera with phase-detect autofocus, burst mode, and 4K recording at 30fps, and a 5MP front-facing camera. Its 3760 mAh battery can last up to two days on a single charge. If running on battery life, Motorola says that user can get to 13 hours of power by charging the phone for only 15 minutes, according to USA Today. However, it does not have a fingerprint sensor that can be found on its contemporary devices.

Verizon apps will also be featured. It includes Cloud, Zap, Caller Name ID, Amazon apps and NFL Mobile, along with mobile games like Panda Pop and Sugar Smash.

According to the mobile wireless carrier, the 32GB version costs $26 per month on a 24-month plan, while the 64GB variant is priced at $30 monthly under the same plan. Droid Turbo 2 will be available starting on Oct. 29 with a limited time trade-in offer for up to $300 off the new device.
