Attractions not found in other Disney resorts such as a Marvel comics section and "Star Wars" would be offered in the upcoming Shanghai Disney Resorts that would open on June 16.

The first group of tourists who would arrive for the grand opening would be welcomed with a spectacular ceremony, part of a multi-day grand opening rite for the $5.5-billion (34-billion yuan) resort that started construction in 2011, reports Chinadaily.

But aside from the Marvel and "Star Wars" features, the resort would also be a showcase of Chinese culture, says Walt Disney Company and Shanghai Shendi Group in an announcement on Wednesday.

Other attractions, based on photos posted, include a castle, a waterfalls and a ride, Disney cartoon characters such as Donald Duck and Minnie Mouse and Disney merchandise in a new flagship store. There would also be two hotels in the pirates-themed resort spread over 963 acres of land. At that size, it is three times the size of Disneyland Hong Kong, notes Bloomberg.

Even if China is going through a contraction and the country's stock market is bearish, the Disney Shanghai chairman and chief executive officer, Bob Iger, maintains that the company is still very bullish on China and believe Chinese consumers would still spend and the Chinese market remains a great market for Disney.

Disney targets the 330 million Chinese whose home are within three hours of a train ride or road trip from Shanghai, the financial capital of China.
