‘Gambit’ Film Update: ‘Magic Mike XXL’ Actor Channing Tatum Exits Film Production? ‘Spectre’ Actress Lea Seydoux To Play Female Lead Role?

"Magic Mike XXL" actor Channing Tatum may leave Rupert Wyatt's "Gambit" while 'Spectre' Actress Lea Seydoux is reported to play the female lead role in the upcoming film.

Sources who are close to the upcoming film told The Wrap that the studio is still in negotiations with Tatum's representatives. It has been assumed that the actor's aspiration of working as a director for the film may have influenced his decision on the project. However, there were no words from Tatum, 20^th Century Fox, and Wyatt about the current standing of the upcoming film.

According to Coming Soon, Tatum was reportedly linked to have screen tests for the film's female lead. "Spectre" actress Lea Seydoux was one of the candidates for the role.

Aside from Sam Mendes' James Bond film "Spectre," the French actress is also known for her roles in films, including Quentin Tarantino and Eli Roth's war drama "Inglourious Bastards," Brad Bird's action film "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol," Abdellatif Kechiche's romance drama "Blue Is the Warmest Color," and Wes Anderson's adventure drama "The Grand Budaspest Hotel."

Along with Tim Miller's "Deadpool," Wyatt's "Gambit" serves as one of Marvel's bullet films as the studio transitions from Phase Two to Phase Three.

With a reported estimated total budget of $154,975,309, "Gambit" features the origin story of the Cajun mutant. Additional cast members and exact plot details have yet to be revealed. If Tatum confirms that he is leaving the project, then 20^th Century Fox has to add another slot to the casting call that surfaced online on July 21.

Wyatt's "Gambit" solo film is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on Oct. 7, 2016.
