For the week ending June 14, the dinosaur action blockbuster hit "Jurassic World" dominated the Chinese box office. It pulled in a total of 614 million yuan.
The fourth installment of the series stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. It landed on Chinese cinemas on June 10.
"Jurassic World" is set 10 years after the events of the Jurassic Park. The fiction Isla Nubar has been featuring a fully functional dinosaur theme park, as originally planned by the character John Hammond.
However, conflict has risen after the plan of creating a new attraction to address the park's declining visitor rates backfired horribly.
"Jurassic World" was executively produced by the renowned director Steven Spielberg and was helmed by Colin Trevorrow.
Meanwhile, disaster epic "San Andreas" grabbed the second spot in the Chinese box office, taking in 181 million yuan. Since its opening on June 2, its total box-office revenue reached 503 million yuan as of June 14.
"Stand By Me Doraemon," a Japanese 3D animation featuring the well-liked and iconic robot, came in third with a total of 51.6 million yuan revenue for the week. The film, which opened on May 28, has gathered a cumulative 507.6 million yuan.
The fourth spot in the Chinese box office went to "PK," an Indian fantasy-comedy, after reaping 12.2 million yuan.
Completing the top five films was "Avengers: Age of Ultron" with 9.39 million yuan. After its opening on May 12, the superhero sequel was able to pull in a total of a whopping 1.47 billion yuan.
